Dear Colleagues

Prof. Dr. Björn Ottersten, Director of SnTOne year after the 1st European Summit on the Future Internet, which took place in Luxembourg, the pace of technological development has continued unabated. Multiple initiatives have been launched worldwide in an attempt to identify the business and technological opportunities as well as the challenges that lie ahead in the transition to Internet enabled smart infrastructures.

Dr. João da Silva, Research Fellow at SnTThe 2nd European Summit on the Future Internet will be held on the 6th June 2011 and will provide a natural forum for the presentation and discussion of the issues, trends and actions confronting the future of the Internet. The summit will be the focal point for the exchange and sharing of lessons learnt and for the presentation and discussion of some of the developments that have taken place in the domain of smart cities.

Particular emphasis will be given to presenting the first set of successful projects from the Future Internet PPP call. The summit will be followed by two workshops taking place on the 7th June. These will focus on two of the most pressing matters
1) The end of IPv4 and the birth of IPv6 and  
2) e-Government and the Future Internet – problems, approaches and actions.
